In my last blog I wrote that I had asked Santa for Manchester United to be less of a shambles. Turns out even Santa has his limits š¤¦š»āāļø. I’ve come to the conclusion that we just need Fergie back, how old is he anyway?! I was at the game on Thursday night against Rangers, so it was nice to at least win that one. I must say the Rangers fans were loud – fair play; but they were blown away by Bruno Fernandes & storm Eowyn in the end!
Apologies that we had to close on Friday this week as a result of the storm – hopefully everyone managed to keep safe and dry, with little to no damage to their property/belongings. We did what we could to reschedule appointments and added an extra clinic yesterday to see emergencies. It also allowed us to get the slap through to our new extension carried out without too much disruption for patients. Things appear to be progressing nicely on that front, full steam ahead to opening our new surgeries around the start of March!
Speaking of steaming ahead, weāve nailed down our team charity fundraising challenge for this year: a 100-mile cycle from Glasgow > Edinburgh & back in the mid-June. There will be a prize for the winner and a forfeit for whoever comes last, so I’m getting the training in now & looking forward to my transition to becoming a fully-fledged MAMIL (middle-aged man in lycra)… it’s my time. š“āāļø
I celebrated turning 37 last week and my birthday consisted of a Saturday morning shift at work, attending a march in support of peace in Gaza, and finished off with a round of mini golf with the kids. 37 really is all it’s cracked up to be. Mini golf on paper should have been one of those wholesome fun family activities, but in reality I spent my time constantly stopping the kids from kicking each otherās golf balls, running onto other peoples holes, & hitting each other in the face with their clubs. There was lots of shouting āno, stop, donāt, Jesus Christ & FOREā involved and although weād planned for 36 holes we called it a day after 18 for everyoneās safety & sanity! I didnāt let them win either. It was my birthday and if they’re going to behave like children they have no chance against the champ. š

I guess that’s why they call it ‘crazy golf’
I’m hoping to take the winning streak to Hyrox which I’ll be doing along with a few members of our team in March. It’s an exercise challenge course which does look pretty tough to be fair. The more modest but also more realistic ‘win’ of finishing the challenge, and not finishing last will do for that one.
With January coming to an end I hope everyone is still sticking to your New Years resolutions, Iāve managed to stick to one. Iām reading more! Finished āThe Glucose Revolutionā and nowĀ occasionallyĀ eat less sweets. Baby steps. As for the other resolutionāreverting to an old Nokia 3210 to cut down on my screen timeāIāve got the phone, just not the SIM card in it yet. One of these days, Iāll either be more present in real life or an absolute legend at Snake.
Finally, if youāve made a resolution to sort out your smile this year, weāve got you covered. Our new surgeries will be up and running soon, and some of our dentists will be back from maternity leave before you know it. So if your teeth are still on your to-do list, weāll be ready when you are!
Take care all and thanks for reading,
Joe
