It’s a marathon not a sprint…

It’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post. I used to do one per week but our Sundays seem to be taken up by different kids birthday parties every weekend now. It’s a great time to focus on sweeping up left over chicken nuggets but it doesn’t leave a lot of free time for writing blogs. Our kids are nearly all independent now though, at the ripe old ages of 4, 5, & 7. Ronan (the youngest) doesn’t wipe his own bum yet but that’s probably his final hurdle into full independence/adulthood. Knowing how lazy he is though I’m pretty sure he’ll try and drag that one into his teens, at which point Raashi and I might have some more free time on Sundays.

There are no parties planned today & Ronan hasn’t eaten much hence the free time to write a blog. Among other things, I wanted to share our upcoming team charity event for Cancer research UK. It’s a marathon trek (including a 2,500ft climb) through the trossarchs on the 18th May. Most of our team are taking part and we’re aiming to beat last years total of £2000+ for charity. I think it’s going to take us about 9 hours and be in the region of 80,000 steps each, more for the shorter people we have on the team (unfortunately that’s pretty much all of us).

Thankfully, we’ve secured the signature of a new full time dentist called Connor who is 6ft 4, he starts in July to replace our maternity leavers (Laura & Lydia). Unfortunately he can’t do the trek this time but I’m fairly sure he could do it without his Fitbit even vibrating! I was excited to get another male on the team as Kamal and I are slightly outnumbered since Mr Chan retired. He also can’t get pregnant (I think? – you never know these days). I’m not even sure you can say that, but sure it’s done now.

It was a busy transfer window for TWDC actually as we also signed another dentist called Kate who starts at the same time. She’s actually our first female Scottish dentist in the squad. They both seem lovely and I’m excited for our patients to meet them.

Any donations from our patients, families and friends would be very much appreciated! : TIA

In other news I’m excited to announce that we have plans to extend our practice soon (building works starting in August). We’ve been at maximum capacity for a long time and I’m glad that we’ll finally be able to bring our NHS waiting list to zero from early next year. Our extension will include an extra 2 new surgeries, a larger waiting area, and if my dreams come true (i.e. the bank lend us loads of money) a new digital lab room so that we can print our own crowns/bridges/retainers/whitening trays etc. That would be a massive game changer for our patients who are used to waiting for at least 1 week for new crowns etc and would (going forward) have the option to get these on the same day!

Starting in August and not finishing until March next year (as we are doing it without closing), it will also be a bit of a marathon in itself. Watch this space for updates and if you know of friends or family who aren’t yet registered with a dentist, please let them know that our NHS waiting lists will be at zero in the near future!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday & thanks for reading,

Joe
