Weddings, Tin year anniversaries & 100 mile charity challenges!

Not long in the door from a trip to Leeds for a family wedding this weekend. It was an Indian wedding of one of Raashi’s cousins and it certainly lived up to the hype: great fun, incredible food, some very questionable dance moves on my part – and yes – a free bar. No complaints from me!

Speaking of weddings, Raashi and I are coming up on a big milestone of our own – tin years married (10 is apparently the ‘tin’ wedding)! It genuinely doesn’t feel that long since I rocked up to our reception on horseback (a three-day celebration, no less). There’s neiigh chance I’ll ever forget the date either as it’s engraved on the inside of my ring, just incase. It’s also tin years since we’ve taken over TWDC, that was a busy time for us back then!

When I googled the 10 year wedding anniversary it suggested a gift of a set of designer storage containers (who needs that?) but apparently “the modern version is a diamond” – of course 🙄. I’ll happily settle for 10 tins of beer.

I’ll have to save them for after our works next charity event though, which is just around the corner. On June the 14th a few of us are taking on a 100 mile cycle to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians – a charity that provides medical aid in Gaza and the West Bank. Like everyone else, we’ve been horrified by the situation there and want to do all we can to help. Our cycle is from Glasgow to Edinburgh and back (104 miles exactly) . If you can, please help us by donating here:

We think it might take us 9-10 hours so the tins will definitely come in handy after that. If you see our staff walking around the practice like John Wayne for a while you’ll know we’ve put a good shift in.

Just before the wedding I was also fortunate enough to visit Bensheim in Germany a couple of weeks ago thanks to an invite from Dentsply Sirona. Our practice is practically a Dentsply Sirona showroom already, so they kindly asked me to visit their European HQ – and it was massive! They’re a big worldwide dental company that basically make everything related to dentistry,: chairs, scanners, all the latest gadgets etc.

There were so many freebies on offer and disappointingly all I managed to blag was a high vis vest. Might come in handy for directing the parking at the practice at least. I’m sure our patients have noticed it gets a bit tight in there, thankfully our friends at Farmfoods next door have kindly lent us some of their spaces too.

Some of the kit we have from Dentsply is in our lab room where we can now mill our own crowns in house, ill leave you with this glowing review from one of our lovely patients Tracey after experiencing it first hand:

Game changer for us and our patients!

Take care all and thanks for reading,

Weekend Adventures & What’s New at the Practice

It’s been a nice, relaxing weekend… for Raashi, anyway — she’s been soaking it up at a spa in Ireland while I’ve been solo parenting three little rockets. The weather hasn’t exactly been on our side, so we’ve ended up watching a fair bit of TV and somehow found ourselves tumbling down a YouTube rabbit hole.

It started with Britain’s Got Talent, moved swiftly onto the US version, then backstage clips, and before I knew it, it was 11pm on a wild Saturday night — the kids and I were knee-deep in mini eggs, watching Simon Cowell’s Top 10 Golden Buzzers of All Time. I’m not saying I got emotional at the golden buzzer moments, but let’s just say I had to tell the kids my hayfever was playing up. How my Saturday nights have changed btw.

I did try to get us out of the house today. The plan was to go swimming, but there was an ‘incident’ at the Allander pool meaning the pool was sh*t — and I’ll let you guess which vowel is missing from that word. So we headed to the Leisuredrome, only to find the roads closed and the leisure centre out of action thanks to a triathlon. Fair play to anyone competing in that – I was tired just driving around for 90 minutes before heading home for.. …. more TV.

I had grand plans to tidy the whole house so that Raashi would think I was an absolute legend of a husband when she gets back later, but she’s just going to have to accept that she married a perfectly bang average bloke (which I’m sure she’s fully aware of already.) We’ve only recently moved back home after some renovation work, and there are boxes everywhere – it’s definitely a two-man job so best waiting for Raashi anyway. And by “two-man job” I mean “one man, one woman”, …I bet that phrase is probably cancelled these days.

At work, we’ve also just moved back into our reception area after a major revamp — and I have to say, it’s looking great. There’s still a bit of snagging to sort, but the new layout is a big upgrade & we’re really proud of it. For our patients the entrance is back around the rear again, with lovely new seating and a complimentary coffee station while you wait. The new surgeries and lab are looking sharp too, and we’ve got some genuinely exciting new tech that’s going to be a real game-changer for us and our patients.

Completely wireless scanning now – in seconds!

We’ll be hosting an open day soon so everyone can come along and check it all out. There’ll be fun activities for the kids, a few freebies on offer, and complimentary consultations for new patients. We’re really looking forward to welcoming you into the new premises. It’ll probably be some time in June so hopefully we get a nice day for it. For one of the nice days we had recently I saw a guy walking around near Bishopbriggs cross not just with his tap aff, but his shoes and socks too. Genuinely couldn’t believe it. Proper just walking around in his bare feet.

You’ll be glad to know we’ll all have our shoes and socks on for your complimentary consultations – look forward to seeing you soon!

Take care all and thanks for reading…

Building Dreams & Bad Karaoke, December at the Practice…

Had a lovely visit to see Santa with the kids today, well not the real Santa of course, but one of his trusted employees. My 4-year-old son Ronan, refused to tell him what he wanted for Christmas. Naturally, I stepped in to help & say that what he really wanted more than anything, was for Manchester United not to be so sh**e. Fingers crossed Santa can deliver something on that one, for Ronan’s sake.

Our daughters, thankfully, are asking for pink skateboards, which should be easier for Santa to sort out than last years flat-pack nightmare. I’m actually hoping to finally catch a glimpse of the real Santa this year, the last few years there’s been sightings of him in our garden but I’ve been out at Asda every time. Terrible luck & timing, really.

Hopefully, on the practice front, we have more luck with our timing for the new building works to be finished – I think I might be giving the builder a few sleepless nights about that. It’s looking great so far though and all going well, 1st March should be our grand re-opening. 🤞🏼The upgrade includes 2 new surgeries, an in-house lab (meaning less turnaround time for dentures & crowns), a spacious waiting area, a shiny new reception & a swanky office for our treatment co-ordinator/assistant manager, Bili. Oh.. and 5 new car parking spaces courtesy of our friends at Farmfoods who are kindly letting our staff park there! To be fair, I’ve probably bought enough chicken nuggets for my lunches in there this year to earn the favour. Can’t wait to share our extension with all our patients when it’s done. 😊

Sneak peak of our new waiting area 👆🏼

We’ve got our staff xmas night out coming up next weekend too, a bit of karaoke to look forward to amongst other shenanigans. I might have the worst voice on the planet, and Raashi comes in at a very close second worst, so it should be a laugh, at our expense at least.

After that, Christmas will be upon is before we know it – is it just me or where does the time go?! I’ve been meaning to write a blog once a month but there’s always something on at the weekends and I can’t seem to find the time. The world also seems to be going absolutely mad at the minute and I find myself stressing at the news in my spare time as I’m sure some of you do too. I do think it’s important we talk about it though, we all know what’s going on in Gaza is not right and needs to end – I hope our politicians can finally do something meaningful to make it so.

After our xmas night out I’m planning on remaining completely horizontal as much as I possibly can next Sunday. So, let me take this opportunity to wish all our patients a Merry Christmas & a fantastic time with your friends and families. I can’t wait to welcome you to our new-look practice in 2025.

Maybe Raashi and I will bash out the karaoke in the waiting room for the grand re-opening ceremony🤗.

Take care all,

Joe
